Bloodmeal provides a very ready accessible source of nitrogen to your soil. The nitrogen comes in at about 13.25%, along with 1 % of phosphorous and .6% of potassium. It breaks down quickly, so take care to not over apply it as too much nitrogen can harm your plants easily. Also, note that an oversupply of nitrogen during the period that plants are switching over to flowering can easily delay the onset of flowers, as it is a strong stimulator of vegetative growth.

Bloodmeal can, however, also attract unwanted guests to your garden, such as dogs, possums and raccoons, who are attracted to the odor.

A good alternative for supplementing nitrogen in your garden is alfalfa meal, which is a more gentle release product.

This product is approved for organic use.

Application

Blood meal can be scratched into the top couple inches of your soil, or it can be diluted in water to be drenched around your root zone.
